During early childhood I remember my fascination with butterflies. Even today, on seeing one, I cannot help but try and take photos.......of which I have many.
I have written about these gorgeous creatures before, but each time the effect is the same; awe and wonder. Joy and appreciation.
Butterflies signify gentility and grace. So many varieties, each with their own character.
They are exceedingly fussy! Flowers look in hope that a fluttering angel will land upon their faces.
Blooms invite them to land upon their countenances even for a brief moment. A delightful degree of mutuality; perhaps empathy.
There are so many varieties, but all present a special display of courtship and friendliness.
A truly wonderful site, when spiralling upwards close and attentive. Such a special moment.
When arriving in a garden it is impossible not to enjoy their fluttering 'music'.
And to quote an excerpt (selected lines) from William Wordsworth:
'I've watched you now a full half hour,
Self-poised upon that yellow flower;
And little Butterfly indeed
I know not if you sleep or feed.
What joy awaits you, when the breeze
Hath found you out among the trees,
And calls you forth again.'

Childhood memories live on forever. Butterflies a fantasy, for they are bringing joy, what more to ask on a summer's day.
